Jetting cleans grease, scale and silt from the inside of a pipe. It suits Plympton drains that block again and again. Ask the engineer to explain the pressure and nozzle. While jetting clears a pipe, it does not repair a crack.
Drain jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the inside of a pipe. It can clear grease, scale and silt, and it can clean a line before problems start. Because the pressure matters, ask how the engineer will protect older pipes.
Plympton falls inside the Plymouth City Council area, and the council lists Plympton St Maurice as a neighbourhood. The council runs a flood strategy and a page for reporting floods. South West Water looks after the public sewers.
Jetting a pipe that serves only your home is usually your own cost. A shared pipe or sewer may belong to South West Water, which took over many private sewers on 1 October 2011. Since a shared pipe may need a different plan, ask the engineer which section they plan to clean before you book.
Pressure and nozzle choice depend on the pipe. Soft deposits need less force than hard scale, while fragile pipes need extra care. Ask the engineer to explain their plan before they start.
Tip for Plympton: If a drain clogs again soon after jetting, ask for a camera check. A fault in the pipe may be the cause. Keep a note of the date, since it helps you plan the next clean.
Say what keeps building up in the pipe, such as grease or silt. If you know the pipe size or material, mention it. Because jetting suits some pipes better than others, the engineer may ask more questions.
Since every engineer sets their own terms, ask before work starts. These questions help you compare quotes fairly. Keep the answers, because they are easier to compare in writing.
It can be, if the engineer sets the pressure to suit the pipe. However, very old or cracked pipes need extra care. Ask how they will check the pipe first, for example with a camera.
The cost depends on pipe length, access and how much build-up there is. Ask for a written quote before work starts, because prices vary with pipe length. Also ask what the price includes, such as a camera check afterwards.
There is no single rule, because it depends on the pipe and what goes down it. A drain that blocks again and again may need a camera check first. A kitchen that sends a lot of grease down the drain may need regular cleaning, so ask the engineer to suggest a plan.
