Jetting uses high-pressure water to clean a pipe. It suits drains in Torpoint that clog with grease or silt. Ask the engineer how they will choose the nozzle and pressure. Since jetting is not right for every pipe, a camera check can help.
Drain jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the inside of a pipe. It can clear grease, scale and silt, and it can clean a line before problems start. Because the pressure matters, ask how the engineer will protect older pipes.
Torpoint is in Cornwall, and the Torpoint Ferry links it with Devonport in Plymouth. Cornwall Council is the lead local flood authority for surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses. South West Water, though, manages flooding from sewers.
Jetting a pipe that serves only your home is usually your own cost. A shared pipe or sewer may belong to South West Water, which took over many private sewers on 1 October 2011. Since a shared pipe may need a different plan, ask the engineer which section they plan to clean before you book.
A jetting visit often begins at a manhole or gully. The nozzle works along the pipe while the water pushes grease and silt out. Ask the engineer how they will protect older or cracked pipes.
Tip for Torpoint: Ask for a camera check after jetting. It shows whether the pipe is clear and in good shape. Keep a note of the date, since it helps you plan the next clean.
Say what keeps building up in the pipe, such as grease or silt. If you know the pipe size or material, mention it. Because jetting suits some pipes better than others, the engineer may ask more questions.
Since every engineer sets their own terms, ask before work starts. These questions help you compare quotes fairly. Keep the answers, because they are easier to compare in writing.
It can be, if the engineer sets the pressure to suit the pipe. However, very old or cracked pipes need extra care. Ask how they will check the pipe first, for example with a camera.
The cost depends on pipe length, access and how much build-up there is. Ask for a written quote before work starts, because prices vary with pipe length. Also ask what the price includes, such as a camera check afterwards.
There is no single rule, because it depends on the pipe and what goes down it. A drain that blocks again and again may need a camera check first. A kitchen that sends a lot of grease down the drain may need regular cleaning, so ask the engineer to suggest a plan.
